Last Movie of Leslie Nielsen's  -- In Limbo: Leslie Nielsen's last movie -- a small budget animated film -- may never see the light of day ... because after Leslie voiced his part ... producers couldn't afford to pay for the final animation.

 Nielsen finished his voice work over a year ago, according to the director of the movie, Bryan Waterman. He tells TMZ that a "great deal" of production still has to be done before the movie can be released -- and by a "great deal" he means the majority of the animation.

Waterman tells us the project has been taking donations in return for a "special thanks" at the end of the movie -- but right now they're still searching for investors.

Waterman plans on adding a dedication to Nielsen, assuming the movie ever gets finished.
