A minor earthquake was felt Wednesday afternoon by a lot of people in eastern Ontario and western Quebec, with accounts of tremors extending from the greater Montreal region to Ottawa, Canadian media CBCNews reported.
Natural Resources Canada confirmed the 4.3-magnitude quake's epicenter was in Hawkesbury, Ontario, just between Ottawa and Montreal.
It struck at about 1:36 p.m. ET and lasted about 10 seconds.
The agency initially reported the quake was centered in Lachute, Quebec, about 80 kilometers northwest of Montreal.
According to Natural Resources Canada, around 450 earthquakes occur in eastern Canada each year, with perhaps four exceeding magnitude 4, while 30 exceeding magnitude 3.
