First Manila 5K race hits road March 14

The first Manila 5000 run, covering a distance of 5,000 meters or 5 kilometers, fires off at the Cultural Center of the Philippines grounds on March 14.
The initial project of Roadracingevents (RRE), a race management and equipment rental company, will feature an Elite division for runners with personal best of sub-20 minutes and the Open category for runners of various fitness levels.
The age categories for male and female are 19 years old and below, 20-29,, 30-39, 40-49, and 50-59. There will also be a 50-and-over category for women and 60-69, and 70-and-over for men.
RRE managing director and race organizer Dino Jose said the event will start with the 5,000-meter run, the shortest road race but with an equivalent Olympic event, albeit in the oval.
“RRE is committed to contributing in elevating the standard of road races and improving the level of performance of the Filipino runner” said Jose, also a veteran marathon runner.
Jose added that Red Dumuk, former president of the Association of Road Race Organizers which presided over the 1980s running boom, is an RRE consultant.
Entry fee is P350, which will include a singlet and certificate of achievement. Registration is ongoing at the second floor of the PSC Administration Bldg. at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, Chris Sports outlets and R.O.X. at the Bonifacio High Street in Taguig.
