Cliff Lee to Yankees possibility picking up steam
Cliff Lee is scheduled to pitch against the New York Yankees tonight. He could end up pitching for them.
The New York Post is reporting that the Yankees, who are in Seattle this weekend, are close to a deal with the Mariners in which minor league catcher Jesus Montero would be the key piece in return.
Lee, who can be a free agent after this season, is 8-3 with 2.34 earned run average and headed to Tuesday's All-Star Game in Anaheim, Calif. The most remarkable part of Lee's performance this year is his 89 strikeouts and six walks in 103 2/3 innings.
Montero, at Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Pa.), is a 20-year-old with a overall .309 batting average in 3 1/2 minor league seasons. Yankees coaches this spring said this spring that Montero is ready to hit in the major leagues but his catching skills need more work.
