bartow county schools

Bartow county schools - The clean-up of local roads is under way, but Barrow County Schools and the Barrow County government will both remain closed Wednesday. The school system announced its third successive snow day on its web site and also announced that the delayed Board of Education meeting will be Jan. 18.
Barrow County Commission Chairman Danny Yearwood told the Barrow Journal this afternoon that the only employees he plans to ask to come to work tomorrow are department managers, directors or elected officials who did not finish entering their employees' time into the county's payroll system before leaving work last Friday.

WBZ school closings WBZ April Fools' Blizzard Forecast - It looked in pretty rough shape, so I decided to touch it up a bit, and, for the most part, keep Barry on fullscreen (meaning cropping out the school closings that took up most of the bottom of the screen, except for a part where Barry alluded to them). I sharpened the video, and edited the pitch, so it may sound “edited” but it's a bit more normal to watch. I have never seen Gary LaPierre anchor TV news, so this was to my astonishment.

Harnett county schools

Harnett county schools - Months of planning will end today, December 14 that the Lady Camels will host their first Education Day in the creek. 2,800 fifth graders in Sampson County, Harnett County and Clinton school systems and those of Cape Fear Christian Academy in Erwin will descend on the campus of Campbell for a full day of learning and fun.

The day begins with students arriving and enjoying Campbell Cheerleaders Pep Rally by CU and Gaylord, with the women’s basketball Camel with music, dance and light show. After the rally to encourage the students alternately by three training sessions consisting of a meeting of mathematics and geography, physical education session and a campus visit.

Douglas Country schools start

Douglas Country schools start - Douglas County school superintendents blame a poor economy for declining enrollment, which translates into less state funding. They are planning for more spending reductions while hoping state legislators won't make matters worse by cutting education funding.

“I'm an optimist,” Glide School District Superintendent Don Schrader said. “I think the state will come up with the money and fund our schools, but we do need to be prepared if they don't.”

Cherry Creek School District

Cherry Creek School District - One of the biggest changes to affect students and parents was the change in starting time, with the elementary schools now starting an hour later than the middle schools in an effort to address bussing issues. In addition to changing starting times, a larger number of parents are now having to transport their children to and from school because the walking distances for middle school and high school students have been increased by half a mile.

School board shooting in Florida

School board shooting in Florida - A gunman calmly walked to a podium, spray painted a red "V" with a circle around it on a wall and opened fire at school board members Tuesday, sending people scrambling and diving for cover. A security guard soon ran in, exchanged shots with and wounded the man who then killed himself, police said.
Despite several shots being fired, no one else was hit. In video of the clash that lasted several minutes, the gunman, Clay A. Duke, dispassionately confronts the Bay District school board, telling everyone in the room to leave except the men on the board. Duke, who was wearing a dark pullover coat, stands about 8 feet directly in front of the board with the gun at his side.
